St. George Family History Expo
Dear Family History Consultants, Center Directors, and Extraction Directors and Assistants,
We are excited to invite you to the eighth annual St. George Family History Expo, to be held at the Dixie Center, 1835 Convention Center Drive, St. George, Utah on February 24 and 25, 2012.
The opening keynote speaker is Dr. Susan Easton Black who is a professor of Church History and Doctrine at Brigham Young University. She is also an author of several books about Joseph Smith, Jr. and the early history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Exhibitors from throughout the United States will teach about the latest products and services available in the industry. Representatives from various genealogical societies will also be on site.
Over 50 classes will be available and will cover a range of topics such as research tips, online resources, helps for writing personal histories, recent updates in FamilySearch (shared by staff from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah), and much more. You can review the complete class schedule at www.fhexpos.com/expos/
We debuted a program called “Ask an Admin” last year. We will have two data administrators from new FamilySearch at the expo. They will spend one on one time with patrons and helped them with their pedigree questions. In many cases, they can to actually ‘fix’ the problem right then!
You can sign for a 20 minute time slot at the FamilySearch booth on Friday, February 24. Time slots are available on Friday afternoon and evening, and Saturday, February 25. They have the ability to correct many issues, like looping pedigrees, some gender issues, badly combined records and so forth. They will work personally with patrons and will help create support cases for issues they aren’t able to correct at the Expo. For cases that are created, they will be able to monitor them back in Salt Lake to make sure they reach the right team and are completed. Please, understand that all issues can’t be corrected at this time, but many can. Plus, you may learn some new tips and tricks as you talk with the administrator to help you work more successfully in new FamilySearch.
FamilySearch is also sending two book scanners to the expo. You can sign up to have your family history book scanned and published on FamilySearch.org, where it can be accessed by others free of charge. If you would like more information, please visit the book-scanning site at http://
This is an incredible opportunity for all of you and the patrons you serve to have staff from Church headquarters available to help you. Please spread the word among your wards and stakes. There is no fee to come see us at the FamilySearch booth, so please stop by and say hello.
There is also no cost for attending the keynote addresses, visiting the exhibitor booths, or attending the three free classes on Saturday morning for family history consultants, stake directors and assistants, and priesthood leaders. We hope to see you there.
