The next meeting of the Utah Valley Technology and Genealogy Group - UVTAGG (Formerly the Utah Valley PAF Users Group) will be on http://uvtagg.org and the press release blog is at http://blog.uvtagg.org . On the blog you can subscribe to receive emails of the press releases when they are posted the week before the meetings., from in the LDS "Red Chapel", 4050 North Timpview Drive (650 East), Provo. This is the regular second-Saturday-of-the-month meeting. Information about the Group, meeting location, main presentations, classes, and class notes are available on their website
The main presentation at this month's UVTAGG meeting will be by Gurcharan Singh Gill on SEEK AND FIND: EXTRACTION OF PEDIGREES FROM REVENUE RECORDS OF PUNJAB, INDIA. This will be a discussion of the process of finding these records and extracting the names into pedigrees. This is more than just indexing the records since it requires additional information to put them into ancestral trees. This information will be of value to all Family History Centers where there is even a small population of people with ancestors from India. Gill (That's the name he usually goes by.) came to America in 1954 at age 19, joined the LDS Church in California, and graduated from Brigham Young University (BYU) in 1958. That same year he married Vilo Pratt. He went on to Graduate School and got a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Utah in 1965. He then taught Mathematics at BYU until he retired in 1999 and is the author of math papers and some problem books on Calculus and Analytic Geometry. In 1993, he and Vilo were called to be the first Mission Presidents for the LDS Church in Bangalore, India, and they served there until 1996. Later, after retiring from BYU, Dr. Gill has been doing family history on the Moga District in Punjab, India where he was born. He has traced the genealogy of the Gill, Sidhu, Brar, Bhatti, and Toor Clans and published a booklet on this subject for his family and his descendants. He and his wife live in the Edgemont area of Provo where they raised their children.
After the main presentation the following classes are scheduled. See the UVTAGG website and blog for last minute changes and additions.
(1) Gurcharan S. Gill, Submitting Temple Names for India
(3) Don Engstrom and Don Reynolds, ASK AN EXPERT (Personal Help)

(6) Gaylon Findlay, ANCESTRAL QUEST
Notice that there is something for everyone, no matter what their level of family history expertise. This includes youth, those just getting interested in genealogy, long-time genealogists, and ward family history consultants. All meetings of UVTAGG are open to the public, whether members of the Group or not. The Group has the goal of helping individuals use technology to further their family history and there are usually 70-80 people attending the monthly meetings, many of whom are family history consultants. The officers are Gerhard Ruf, President; Laurie Castillo, 1st VP; Don Snow, 2nd VP; Eileen Phelps, Newsletter Editor; Don Engstrom and Rayanne Melick, Membership and Finances; Bruce Merrill and Marie Andersen, DVD Library; and Chris Stevenson and Rick Klemetson, Webmasters. Several of these will be at the meeting to answer questions, help with membership, distribute the current issue of the monthly newsletter TAGGOLOGY, and check out and sell to members of the Group DVDs of past presentations and classes. Membership includes many benefits such as being able to purchase the inexpensive presentation and class DVDs, receiving the monthly newsletter TAGGology (via email, if requested), and access to many genealogy resources through the UVTAGG's membership in the Federation of Genealogical Societies. The online dues are only $10 per year and gift memberships make great presents for family history-minded relatives, friends, and family history consultants. Membership is on a calendar year basis. See more information about presentations, classes, class notes, and joining the Group on the websites above.
