Virtual Chapter Meeting Nov 15
Diahan Southard
"The Basics of DNA Testing for Genealogy"
The Virtual Chapter meets online the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Mountain Time. To participate in the meetings, at the date and time they are scheduled, go to virtual.ugagenealogy.org, and click on the virtual chapter icon. When prompted, click on the radio button to enter the meeting as a guest.
On Thursday, November 15, Diahan Southard, will be presenting "The Basics of DNA Testing for Genealogy."
This presentation will cover the very basics of mtDNA, YDNA, and autosomal DNA testing for the genealogist. We will cover the basic principles of each test, along with real life examples on how it can help you break through brick walls in your research.
Diahan Southard graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in microbiology. As an undergraduate she worked in the archeogenetics laboratory of Dr. Scott Woodward. In 2000 that lab became the basis the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation (SMGF, www.smgf.org). That part time college job became a passion that lead her to her current position as a principal at the Genetic Genealogy Consultant, where she helps individuals and families to understand their genetic results in the context of their genealogical information.
There will be no Virtual Chapter presentation in December.
