Sources and Citations: Just Do It!
Presenter: Carol Darrow
President of the Colorado Genealogical Society
Family history without documentation is mythology. Knowing the source of the information that you gather and determining whether the source was an actual participant or someone who wrote about the event long afterwards will help you evaluate the reliability of the information you collect. Then it’s time to apply our knowledge to evaluate the significance of the information in the document – does it answer the question?
Citing your sources tells your reader where you got your information so they can evaluate the information for themselves. It will also help you to retrace your steps back to your original
Preparing Names for the Temple Using FamilyInsight and Ordinance Tracker
Presenter: Cina Johnson
Customer Service and Training - Ohana Software
This class is aimed for the LDS user who wishes to provide temple ordinances for their ancestors. We will use FamilyInsight to synchronize a family and review the rules regarding qualifying a name for temple work. We will reserve the ordinances and use Ordinance Tracker to either print a Family Ordinance Request or move the cards to the temple file.
This class is designed to help new users learn how to use FamilyInsight. We spend time learning what the program does and how to open your file into FamilyInsight. You will be familiarized with the screen layout as we review the fundamentals of using each feature (mode) of the program. Some of these features include finding out if you have unlinked people or pedigrees, or duplicate records for some individuals in your file. You will learn how you can improve your file by correcting your place names so they are consistent and recognized by the new FamilySearch. FamilyInsight is a powerful but often underutilized tool and this class will help you make better use of the program.
