Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple
The open house for the Philadelphia Temple will begin Friday, August 5, and conclude on Saturday, September 3, 2016. Tours of the temple will not be conducted on any of the Sundays in August.
The temple will be dedicated and broadcast to all Church meetinghouses in Pennsylvania and those in the Philadelphia Temple district on Sunday, September 18, in three sessions, 9:00 a.m., 12:00 noon and 3:00 p.m. A cultural celebration will be held the night before on Saturday, September 17.
Latter-day Saint temples differ from meetinghouses or chapels where members meet for Sunday worship services. Temples are considered “houses of the Lord” where Christ’s teachings are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity. Inside the temple, members learn more about the purpose of life and make covenants to serve God and their fellow man.
