 Free Seminar Provides Insight into Future of FamilySearch’s Online Family Tree
Riverton FamilySearch Library Hosts Classes on October 16

RIVERTON, UTAH — A free seminar at the Riverton FamilySearch Library on Saturday, October 16 will offer attendees a glimpse into the future of family history. The three-hour seminar runs from 9:00 to noon and includes eight classes and a keynote speaker.

The keynote speaker, Ron Tanner, will be addressing the topic “The Future of New FamilySearch” (FamilySearch’s web-based family tree application). As a FamilySearch product manager, Tanner assists in the research and design of new FamilySearch and companion products. Currently, his assignments include overall product delivery fornew.familysearch.org; rollout to Asia; and future product direction for FamilySearch’s online family tree feature. Ron has a master’s degree in Computer Science from BYU and has previously worked as a product manager and engineer at Novell, Citrix, and Bell Laboratories.

Following the keynote presentation, there will be two blocks of four classes each that will cover both research and technology.

Classes to be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. are:
·         New FamilySearch Editing and Temple Submission – Cathy Anderegg
·         Census Techniques and Strategies for Finding Elusive Ancestors – Jason Harrison
·         Using Google for Research – Sue Maxwell
·         Finding Your Scottish Ancestors – Raymon Naisbitt

The classes available from 11:00 a.m. to noon are:
·         New FamilySearch Resources for Consultants and Priesthood – Cathy Anderegg
·         Using Ancestry.com for Military and Land Records – Robert Turley
·         Exporting Data from new FamilySearch for Other Uses – Paul Hyer
·         Southern States Research – DeAnne Shelley

No registration is required for this free seminar. The library will also be open until 5:00 p.m. that day for patrons desiring to do individual family history research. For more information, please visit www.familysearch.org/fhc/riverton.

The Saturday Seminars will be held on the third Saturday of each month. The Riverton FamilySearch Library is located in the LDS Riverton Office Building at 3740 Market Center Drive. The facility is near the intersection of Bangerter Highway and 13400 South, just east of The Home Depot.
